Northeastern Pennsylvania is notable historically because it has produced a disproportionate number of writers who attracted national notice. For example, Pottsville native John O'Hara became one of the 20th century's most popular novelists, while Wilkes-Barre-bred Herman Mankiewicz co-authored the script for Citizen Kane, one of Hollywood's greatest films. In this presentation, Dr. Sheldon Spear will share stories of these writers as well as others including: Frank Ward O'Malley, Dr. Austin O'Malley, Samuel Hoffenstein, Louis Weitzenkorn, Zelda Popkin, Elinor Hoyt Wylie, Jason Miller and Sarah Atherton Bridgman.
