At The Dietrich by Then we have the gorgeous and incredibly talented Charlize Theron in a second movie this week – Prometheus. This is a terrific sci-fi film about a group of scientists who, on a voyage into deep space, get stranded on an alien planet and discover, to their horror, that the alien creatures there intend to eliminate all of mankind. And so they must save the earth and all those who live on it. It’s directed by super director Ridley Scott (Black Hawk Down and Gladiator) and stars, along with Theron, Noomi Rapace (she is the Swedish star of their version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series) and Michael Fassbender. So if you want to see a rip-roaring adventure and you love sci-fi, this is the movie for you. Two hours of great special effects, our terrific popcorn and good company, both onscreen and off. And Prometheus also will have a matinee showing in 2D for those of you who prefer it.
And don’t forget that we are playing the very interesting and wickedly inventive Snow White. People who have seen it have loved it. I’m thinking of seeing it tomorrow, even though it’s not exactly my cup of tea, because it looks so intriguing.
And Men In Black will be moving to the original movie theater and will be in 2D for the remainder of its run with us. So, if you’ve been waiting, now is the time to see this perfectly terrific little flick!
And now to those cultural folks. I’ll tell you, they are so busy this summer they’re making my head spin, or they would if it were spinnable. They are pretty much filling up the summer classes so give them a call before school lets out to assure a space will be reserved for your wee one. There will probably still be slots left after school ends, but the selection will be more limited.
Monday nights this month Bill Herron will be teaching the ancient game of Go. I remember about thrity years ago someone trying to teach it to me and I just couldn’t get it. Now, all these years later and with a brain that only works when it’s in the mood, I’m going to try again. And I told my hubby he had to come too. So if you want a real challenge and a good time, come learn an old game but a goodie. Call 996-1500 to reserve a place.
And don’t forget Poe in the Park – coming up Saturday June 23rd at Lazybrook. It’s going to be soooo fun!

During this exhibit we will also display works painted by students in the Dietrich’s Decorative Painting class. If you are unable to see the exhibit on Founders’ Day, this must-see show will be on display at the Dietrich through August during regularly scheduled movie times or by appointment.
The Dietrich Children’s Theatre will also be back with a new production for Founders’ Day weekend. He wants to do something good so he sends a gift to a deserving queen. The queen sends him a bigger gift in return. Wali Dad cleverly passes this on to a noble king, who sends Wali Dad an even more lavish present. The more Wali Dad tries to give away the more he is rewarded. Please join us to see the antics that ensue and if Wali Dad can ever return to the simple life that he loved.
