| See www.dietrichtheater.com or phone 836-1022 for times | At The Dietrich By Hildy Morgan The sky is falling! The sky is falling! A very little chicken confided that to me just the other day. The biggest, brassiest, best Disney animation in a decade is coming to the Dietrich on Friday! “Chicken Little” is hilarious, heartwarming, silly, G-rated, fabulous family fun! Honestly, it doesn’t get better than this kind of Disney “classic.” This starts the holiday “blockbusters” and we have our fingers crossed and the popcorn popping. Do come. The kids (and the adults who bring ‘em) are going to simply LOVE this movie.
Harry Potter advance tix are on sale now. In the daytime you can come to the office, at night you can stop in the theater. We are doing advanced tix for the midnight show (technically Friday morning - - you know, 12:01a.m. on the 18th) but to avoid confusion we have listed it as November 17th because you will be coming into the theater that Thursday night. I am only going into all this because at our last midnight show a few folks got confused and came a day late. We are also doing advanced tix for the 7:00o’clocks on Friday and Saturday. We aren’t doing them for the matinees for a simple reason. Come early, you’ll get in. If you don’t, then you can buy your tix for the next show right away. The reason we don’t make advance tix for all the shows is that we aren’t computerized and so they are all made by hand and are kept track of by hand. It’s incredibly time-consuming. But trust me, if you just come early you’ll be fine. Honest.
Okay, now to cultural stuff. Good grief! Margie and Erica are doing so much neat stuff that I have to talk about that almost as much as I talk about the movies. Hmmmm.
This is so, so neat. On this Friday, November 4, from 11:00 – 2:00 there will be a reception for the artists in our new Earnshaw Gallery display. We are so proud of this one. Luzerne/Wyoming County Mental Health/Mental Retardation Community Counseling Services Day Development Program (is that a mouthful or what?) has encouraged those in their group with artistic talent to become real, honest-to-goodness artists. Ars Gratia Artis. Margie and I visited their studios about two months ago and their work is amazing. Full of vibrant color and sweet emotion. We were completely taken by it and asked if the artists would consider doing a show at the Dietrich. They were most gracious, so the show will be with us for two weeks and the artists will be with us for a few hours on Friday. Please come meet these wonderful, gentle souls who have great loving hearts and breathtaking talent.
The, I have to tell you about this. It is so, so cool. When Rand Whipple agreed to come here to teach pantomime, we had hoped to work some with the Scranton School of the Deaf. Well, like so much in rural areas, transportation knocked a big hole in our plans. But Margie saved the day (as usual) by arranging for Rand to teach pantomime right at the School for the Deaf. So the afternoon class will be at the Dietrich, the night one will be in Scranton. Isn’t that fabulous? We are so thrilled to be working with the School for the Deaf, I just can’t tell you! (You know what’s fun? Watching Fern Boyce sign, her hands flying like some kind of wondrous magic, as she talks to you with her voice, but her hands simply can’t keep still. I think being able to sign is just one of the coolest things ever!)
Lori and Jerry Bogedin are once again reaching out a helping hand to the theater. They are doing their annual benefit for a local non-profit at Twigs on November 21, from five p.m. until closing for the Dietrich! SAVE THE DATE!!! Monday, November 21. As Karen Weese said when Twigs did the same thing for Habitat for Humanity, “What a great way to suppost a terrific cause! All you have to do is eat!” Please bring friends and come to eat at Twigs that night. It will help us out and be great fun. Free popcorn. A couple of gift-bag raffles. And Twigs always wonderful food.
Don’t forget the NYC bus trip. Wednesday, Nov. 30th. Call 996-1500 for your reservations. Don’t wait too long - - you know what happens when you do.
Whoa. That was a lot of stuff to tell you. I have to go rest now.

| Live at The Dietrich By Erica Rogler Okay, first let me tell you about our New York City Bus trip at the end of the month. On Wednesday, November 30th, we invite you to experience New York City your own way. See a show, shop, visit the Museum, view holiday decorations, and top the day off with a great Italian family-style dinner at Carmine’s. Our Executive Director, Hildy Morgan, loves to see the old Christmas tree decorations at the Met around the holidays. I have never been to NYC during the holiday season and can’t wait to see what all the storefronts look like. The bus will leave Tunkhannock at 7:30 a.m. and return home by 11:00 pm. Admission is $100 for the trip, which includes dinner at Carmine’s and the bus. Space is limited; call the Dietrich at 570-996-1500 to make your reservations.
Another big event happening this month will be our “Therapy Dogs Second Saturday”. On Saturday, November 12th from 11:00 am - noon, we invite you and your family to the Dietrich to meet some Therapy Dogs and their owners. We encourage little ones to bring along a book to read to the dogs. You will also see dog tricks and dogs dancing. Sadie, a retired Search and Rescue dog, will be there and you can learn more about her work and Therapy Dogs. Admission is free. Call the theater for details.
Yesterday was our first session of Pantomime with Rand Whipple of Box of Light Theatre. What a success! The kids in the afternoon session did a great job. There are still a few spaces available. So if you have a child interested in the theatre arts, this could be a perfect opportunity. The class will continue to meet on November 7, 8, 14, 15, 22, December 6, 7, 8, which will lead up to two performances on December 9th for Christmas in Our Hometown featuring Box of Light Theater and the Pantomime class. They will perform “Weird, Wild, and Wonderful - A Look at the Holiday Season” with Box of Light Theatre. Call the Dietrich at 570-996-1500 for details about the class or the December performances.
Also, now is the time to sign up for our children’s art classes. Art classes can be the perfect creative outlet for your budding artists. For school-age children we offer “Discovering Great Artists, ages 9 to 12” on Thursdays and on Fridays we have a similar class for kids ages 5 to 8. For adults and teens we have “Pottery and Sculpture” on Mondays from 7:00-8:30 pm and an “Open Studio” on Tuesdays during the same time slot. Call the theater to find out more about these classes and to register.
And in November, Sharon McArdle will be teaching a “Painting on Glass” Workshop on Wednesday, November 16th from 6:30-8:30 pm. In this class, you will learn how to paint designs on wine glasses to create your own unique set. Or it might be something you would like to make for someone on your holiday gift list. Admission is $15 plus the cost of the painting surface. Call the theater ahead of time to preregister.
The Dietrich’s “Kindermusik Our Time” class for toddlers ages 18 months to three years is going very well. Due to its success, Cathy Shefski is going to start up a “Kindermusik Village Class” starting on December 1st. We invite you to come inside with your baby this winter for our new class for infants ages 18 months and under. This eight-session series will be held on Thursdays at 9:15 - 10:00 am from December 1st to February 3rd. Call Cathy for details at 586-1977. She has a great background in music!
And speaking of music, our final session of “Fun for Tots: Stories and Songs with Mary Baker” is tomorrow from 10:30 -11:30 am at the Dietrich. Again, thank you, Tunkhannock Junior Women’s Club for making this event possible.
And don’t forget, the much-anticipated animated movie “Chicken Little” will open at the Dietrich this Friday, November 4th. This Disney film promises to be great entertainment for children and families! | More than the Movies at the Dietrich Theater Therapy Dogs Second Saturday
