Buster Keaton’s Sherlock Jr. w/ R.E.M.: A Silents Synced Film
At the Dietrich Theater in downtown Tunkhannock
Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m. & 7 p.m.
Tickets: $8.50
Buster Keaton’s classic silent movie Sherlock Jr. pairs uncannily with R.E.M.’s music from 70 years later. The brainchild of Josh Frank, an Austin, Texas drive-in theater owner, Silents Synced is a series of cinematic/music mashups that will leave even fans of the legendary Wizard of Oz/Dark Side of the Moon phenomenon shocked with delight. The second film in this series couples R.E.M.’s 1990’s alt-rock masterpieces; Monster and New Adventures in Hi Fi, with Buster Keaton’s 1924 slapstick comedy Sherlock Jr. in which a film projectionist (Keaton) longs to be a detective and puts his meagre skills to work when he is framed by a rival for stealing his girlfriend’s father’s pocket watch.
